Huge Antique American Silver Plate Figural SQUIRREL Nut Bowl - Middletown

Description

A very large American 19th century figural silver plate nut bowl, made by the Middletown Silver Plate Company.  The bowl of this piece is shaped like a large nut shell, with acorn and oak leaf decoration around the pedestal base and on the handle. On the top is perched a squirrel, who looks like he is navigating the nut shell as a boat.  Whimsical and monumental at the same time.
In generally very good condition, with some scattered tarnishing, particularly in the nooks and crannies. There is one spot. of very minor bending on the upper shell of the nut, near the back.
Measures: 13" x 12 1/4" x 8".
