    Description

    General Ulysses S. Grant, Congressional Bronze Medallion 1863
    Congressional bronze medallion picturing a profile bust of Ulysses S. Grant on the obverse and a female personification of America above a pile of flags, drums and weapons on the reverse. The front pictures laurel and oak leaves and sheaves of corn and wheat around the edge. On the reverse, a mountainous landscape is faintly seen in the background and waves and steamboats are pictured around the edge.
    The words on the front read as follows:
    “Major General Ulysses S. Grant
    Joint Resolution of Congress
    December 17, 1863”
    Designed by Anthony Paquet and John Antrobus, as evinced by the signature reading "Antrobus D. Paquet F.” below the bust on the front.
    On the reverse, the words “Vicksburg / Chattanooga” are etched beneath the picture, and “Mississippi River” can be read along the bottom.

    Item shows some wear; the front and back bears some discolored spots.
