French Antique C.C. Christofle Small Condiment Set – 1870’s
An elegant, fitted three- crystal bottle condiment set in a silverplated holder with a large curved handle, set on four half-ball feet.
Dating from the 1870’s, it is hallmarked and stamped C.C. Christofle, the founder of the famous silversmiths.
The holder is decorated with leafy swirls and a cross-ribbon pattern on the handle. The three crystal bottles were created to fit perfectly in the curved holder, with a silveplated collar and the original cut crystal stoppers.
Smaller-sized than most condiment sets, it very likely was created for trays or to be used on small dining tables.
It measures 6 1/8 inches to the top of the handle. The holder measures 5 inches by 1 7/8 inches and each bottle is 5 inches high to the top of the stopper.
The set is in very good condition, with faint traces of surface wear. The bottles are in excellent condition – no chips, no cracks and no fissures. One of the stoppers has a minuscule chip found by touch on the inside bottom.
Such a set would have been used to offer two types of vinegar, such as white and balsamic, or two types of oil.
It is an unusual condiment set, in very good condition.
